Despacito by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi, and Daddy Yankee became the song that was streamed the most in less than six months. The mix of reggaeton with pop music not only brought interest back to the genre, but also to Latin music as a whole. Billboard's Top 100 featured two songs that were Spanish mostly, and four in 2016. However, during the heights of the Despacito's popularity in 2017 there were 19 mainly Spanish tracks that made the Top 100. Then in 2020 there were 41. In the wake of Justin Bieber released his bilingual remix of Despacito in 2017, the most well-known artists began to join forces with reggaeton musicians. Drake and Bad Bunny collaborated for the track MIA MIA (2018), while Madonna collaborated with Maluma to record Medellin 2019, which was released in 2019. In 2020, several Reggaeton performers were expressing displeasure about the advancing of the genre towards the mainstream. However, a younger generation, such as Rauw Alejandro was determined to keep the trend going. Incorporating elements of electronic dance music, and other styles was a common procedure.
